Service is the rent we pay for living. It is the very purpose of life and not something you do in your spare time.

A hardy welcome to our sorors and visitors to the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.- Mu Iota Omega Chapter’s website. I am delighted that you are visiting us and I invite you to take a look at the contributions that we are rendering to the Horry County Community. We are a small but mighty chapter with close to 60 active members. Although our property is housed in Conway, our service area includes many areas in Horry County including Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Loris, Aynor, Murrell’s Inlet, Socastee, Surfside Beach, and other non-incorporated areas. Established in 1978, this chapter has not only been present but has rendered service to Horry County since its inception. Located at 1417 Tenth Avenue, we are property owners who believe it is our responsibility to play an active role in the communities in which the members of MIO live.

Our current international theme is “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood”. Under this theme, we are locally, nationally, and internationally empowering our families, building our economic wealth, enhancing our environment, advocating for social justice, and uplifting our community. We are working in all of these areas while also strengthening the AKA sisterhood.

If you are a member who is looking for a new home or a chance to reactivate, we welcome you. If you want to partner with us on one of our service projects please contact us via Facebook, Instagram, or this website. We also welcome any donations to help us with our major initiatives of the Women’s Health and Wellness Brunch, Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack (CHIPP), and the Youth Leadership Institute (YLI). We focus on women’s health because we know that women have a unique set of healthcare challenges that can put us at a high risk of developing certain conditions are diseases. Our CHIPP program provides area children with meals for weekends and holidays and YLI is an interactive summer program designed to engage middle school students. Stay tuned to this website to find out about upcoming events. The members of MIO welcome the entire community to support the residents of Horry County by giving your time, effort, and monetary donations.

Sincerely,

Benita M. Stephens, EdD
